the last 2 years we have made the trip up to the windy city for the wttw fun and run. the dergances came with us and everyone had an absolute blast!! this year, the derg's couldn't make it, but the girls still wanted to go. i was unsure if we would make it since i had been sick the past couple weeks. but i knew if we didn't go i would be sad. so after resting all day saturday, i decided we would go! naturally when i looked at the weather it called for a chance of thunderstorms! go figure!
nick had to work, but we asked maria to come with us and she gladly agreed! plus, matt was planning on meeting us there! so our plans were set....fun and run here we come! our back up plan in case of rain was the chicago children's museum! so either way, it was going to be a fun day!
the drive up was rainy, but by the time we go into the city it was sunny skies......except to the west. after going back and forth as we slowly creeped along lake shore drive, we decided to skip the fun and run. and it's a good thing we did.....about 20 minutes after we got to navy pier, it started raining! phew!
the girls and the giant chef!
the girls love these things and they were all over!
the girls thought it was pretty cool that there were water fountains over them! i thought they were pretty cool too!
what's a trip to navy pier without going on the ferris wheel?! luckily we got on when we did because as soon as we got off, they shut it down due to the weather!
the girls tried to drive the boats! not the easiest thing to do....especially when you can barely see over the ledge! lol!
charlie being a goof in uncle matt's hat!
finally after we met up with matt and filled our bellies, it was time for the children's museum! this was the first time we had been to this one so we were all excited!
the first stop was the fire area!
up in the basket!
sliding down the pole!
climbing up to the lookout tower!
they made it! now it's time to head back down!
they had to sit on the super hairy, creepy dude bench! lol!
and what's a chidren's museum without a water area! i especially liked the fact that they had full raincoats rather than just the smocks! (on our very first trip to a children's museum a few years ago, we went to bloomington and the first exhibit we did was the water area. well, the girls got soaked! and i didn't come prepared so we had to buy new tshirts! lol!)
bowling with foam bowling balls! sweet!
while charlie was bowling, haylie was busy practicing her launching skills! awesome!
charlie inside a giant tree!
panning for gold!!
uncle matt teaching charlie how to wash a car!
she changed the tire! go charlie!
mailing grama tammy and papa curt a letter!
the next area was the dinosaur exhibit! very very cool!
a room full of giant things!
charlie just smelling the flowers!
now that's a big shoe!
the girls really liked the rolling pin bench!!
the frame of this chair is made out of old bike tires!
helping uncle matt build!
this is the lookout tower! they actually can climb up from the floor below too! which of course they did several times!
manning the 911 call center!
haylie practicing hooking up the fire hoses!
we also took part in a craft activity before we left! the girls got to use tiny objects to make a story box! it was a really neat idea and they provided tons of different supplies!
this was pretty much our last 'summer' adventure! and what a super fun day it was!! many thanks to maria and matt for sharing it with us!!
