on may 27th, 2012, my oldest daughter, haylie rae, turned 6 years old!! i still can't believe it!! 6 years already?!?! where did the time go?? she's such a big girl! i simply adore her! she's extremely smart, loving, kind, caring....i could go on for days! she brings us so much joy and laughter! I couldn't ask for anything more!
she was born on memorial day weekend, so it's usually quite a busy weekend for us, but this year was extremely busy! memorial day weekend was also the weekend of thier dance recital! this year her birthday fell on a sunday, and since we had the matinee performance that day, her party couldn't be that day, but i still try to do whatever i can to make the day special! i start by blowing up a bunch of balloons the night before and surrounding her bed so thats the first thing she sees when she wakes up! this year, she's in a loft type bed, so it was a little different. i decided at the last minute to put all the balloons up on her bed right before she woke up! charlie woke up when i was in there so she got to help this year!

as soon as charlie had permission from her big sis to join her, she gladly climbed up to play in the balloon bed!!
almost every single day, haylie has a waffle for breakfast, and her birthday was no different! except that we put a candle in it and sang her happy birthday! gotta get the day started off right, and what better way than with a waffle and a song!
after the dance recital haylie finally got to open her presents from nick and i (and charlie too of course!) you would think we made her wait weeks! lol!
and since charlie is like the princess of singing happy birthday (its not unusual to hear it multiple times per day.....everyday!), she had to get the "cake" and sing to haylie again!!

since haylie's birthday falls on memorial day weekend, that does give us an extra day to party! and of course we took that opportunity and ran with it! haylie wanted a gymnastics party this year, but since we have a lot of family (some of whom wouldn't necessarily want to watch a bunch of kids do gymnastics for two hours), we decided to also have a cookout birthday party / memorial day party! and haylie sure wasn't going to oppose having an extra party! naturally there was a chance of rain and severe thunderstorms for that day (hadn't rained in weeks, but of course the day we're gonna party and play outside, it threatens to). for her fifth birthday, we had a couple kids pools and slides set up and it was a torrential downpour the entire party! this year, i didn't really care if it was 70 degrees and cloudy, as long as the kids got to play outside! thank goodness the rain held off and it was hot....the kids got to play in the water!! they sure do love that!! and we love watching them!!
here's the cake that grama tammy made for haylie! so darn cute!! i love that my mom bakes! mostly because she does an awesome job and everyone loves her cakes! but also because that means i don't have to do it! hehehe!

it turned out to be a wonderful day!! i love being able to have parties and watch all the kids play and have such a fun time!! thanks so much to everyone who came and shared hayile's birthday and memorial day with us!!!
