anyone who knows me, knows that i love to have get togethers at our house! yeah, it's a lot of work sometimes, but i love getting everyone together for some good food and great company! since half the summer is already over, and we haven't had any cookouts yet, i decided it was time to get moving! so i talked to one of my friends, and we set a date! the plan was a small, kid-friendly cookout! well, i tend to have this "problem," where things usually end up bigger than planned! and this was no exception! by the time the day arrived, we were planning on 11 adults and 12 children! so much for small! lol! but hey, it doesn't bother me one bit! the more the merrier!!
our plan was for july 7th, and a couple days before that i looked at the weather and it was a high of like 85, which was fantastic since it had been 100 degrees for the last week or so! so a "cool" 85 was perfect for our cookout! well, the day before, the forecast changed, and it was a high of 98! eek!! this is fine for the kids, who were going to be playing on the waterslide and what not, but for us adults.....2 of whom are prego.....this was less than ideal! so my revised plan was an hour of water fun for the kids, then everyone head inside for dinner and fun! but then i got a little worried......that many people (mostly kids!) in our house tends to get a little crazy! so i "cleaned" as much as i could to prepare for 20+ people inside! all was good to go! not a lot of prep work either! roast beef in the crock pot, fruit cut, and cheesey potatoes in the oven! ready to go!
well, our friends started to arrive, the kids were happily playing on the slide, and all was good! hot!! but good! so dinner was about ready, some kids were ready to come inside....still all good! and then it happened..........the wind picked up, and it started to cool off!! how wonderful!!! kids were still in and out all night, but it was much more tolerable, even nice, for the adults!!
unfortunately, since it was kinda crazy with all the kids, and getting the food ready, i didn't get too many pics! but i did take the time to chat with some of my wonderful friends!! so it still all worked out just fine!! :)
nora, jack, olivia and julia playing mario kart on the wii! pretty intense!
mikaela and olivia playing air hockey!
phoebe, haylie and nora playing mario kart!
erin! what a lil stud!
joey and logan digging in the dirt with badminton racquets!
haylie and alexis! haylie loves being a big sister, and loves babies, so when our friend alexis wants haylie to pick her up, she's happy to do it! such a little care taker!
we spent the next day pretty much just lounging around! i, for one, was absolutely beat saturday night! between the prep work, hanging out with my friends, and making sure none of the kids hurt themselves or each other, i was exhausted! the girls had a ton of fun too! so sunday afternoon, i was more than happy to have a quiet, relaxing day inside! but in the afternoon, i started feeling kind of bad about not doing much (altho we did go to church and breakfast in the morning....that's gotta count for something, right?!). anywho....i asked the girls what they wanted to do. we agreed on a park. well, a few minutes later, i looked down in the playroom and saw this.....
the girls looked up at me and said "we just wanna stay home and watch a movie and rest"! hey....i sure wasn't gonna argue with them! i hope we can squeeze in another cook out or 2 before it gets cold!! and maybe this time we can actually cook out! haha! either way, i know it will be a great time!!
